Summer Reading Clubs!!

Whew! This summer is really rocking at your Land O' Lakes Library! If you haven't been in to your library lately be sure to stop by. Don't forget to sign-up online for the summer reading club and then join us for the weekly programs! Wednesdays @ 2:00pm for grades K-5, Fridays @ 2:00 for grades 4-7, teens on alternating Tuesdays and Fridays @ 6:00pm and 5 yrs and younger can join us for our storytimes on Fridays @ 10:15, 10:45 and 11:30.

Be sure to report your books online by July 23rd to be invited to the final parties and receive your awesome prizes!!!

Summer Reading Club Parties!!!

Hurry! You only have til the end of tomorrow, Saturday, July 31st to log your books and be invited to the Summer Reading Club parties! Elementary ages and teens have to log 6 books and children five and under have to log 20 books. If you still have books to log click here for teens, here for elementary and here for the little ones and you will be taken to the Reading Club webpage. Email invitations will be going out on Tuesday, August 3rd... So check your inboxes! Congratulations to all of you who finished and we hope to see you at the parties!!

Congratulations to all our young STAR READERS who completed their reading


commitments and attended our Summer Reading Club Final Parties!

Our toddlers and preschool readers enjoyed the music, stories and fun of Dave Moran.












Our elementary readers enjoyed the balloons, balls and fun of "The Jiggle Man"
aka Banks Helfrich.












In addition to the final parties, each reader was presented with a Certificate of Completion and fantastic prizes. Our staff had a great time, too!

The Library is grateful to all of the sponsors of the Summer Reading Program, including the St. Petersburg Times, Connerton Foundation, and the Friends of the Land O' Lakes Library.

And the Winner is.....Rockin' Rainbow!

You did it! The Teens completed their goal of reading a total of 1000 books (actually 1230) for the Summer Reading Program, which means, Miss Alicia will be dyeing her hair as she promised! You voted and the winning color is "Rockin' Rainbow."

Be the first to see Miss Alicia's new hairdo by coming to the SRC Final Party if you completed your reading commitment and logged in your six books. It promises to be a great time!

The Miami Dolphin's Foundation has graciously purchased books from the Scholastic Literacy Partnership for a coloring contest this summer.

This means, you can win books! Here's how:

* Pick up a coloring sheet at you local library or you can download a copy at: http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/youthfootball/downloads/downloads.asp

* Color it in, as best you can.

* Return it to you local library by Saturday, July 25.

A winner will be chosen at each of the libraries.

Wow! The summer just flew by! This is the last Summer Reading Club program before the final party for our Elementary readers!

Join us on Tuesday, July 21st at 2:00pm for "Name That Tune."

How's you ear? Can you recognize songs? You will be able to compete in teams in various categories ranging from Classic Nursery Rhymes to TV Theme Songs. Listen to the music and see if you can "Name That Tune!"

Sure, Battleship is a fun game when played on a tabletop. Wouldn't it be better, though, to play on a life-sized board, with human pieces and giant rubber balls as missiles? We think so too! Join us for the second in our series of live-action boardgames.

Our Summer Reading Club is heating up with our next event for Teens. Join us for Giant Mad Libs & Anime Voiceovers. Come up with your most creative words and laugh as they are placed into our giant-format Mad Libs. Afterwards, you will have the chance to use our voiceover machine to put your own dubs onto anime movies, with potentially hilarious results.

for Tween readers!

Join us on Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00pm for the first session of our three-part workshop "Make Your Own Manga - Part 1."

Over the next three weeks, we'll show you how to create your own Graphic Novel. From conception, to drawings, inkings, adding dialogue and finally binding, your finished product will be an 8-12 page Graphic Novel that YOU created!

Friday, June 26th, 6:00-9:00pm - SRC: Teen Art Festival & Guitar Art Fundraiser

We're cruising along through the summer with our next cool Teen SRC event: Art Festival & Guitar Art Fundraiser. Get the chance to experience several art workshops on different subjects, from calligraphy to coffee painting, with plenty of stuff to take home. The highlight of the evening will be the decoration of an acoustic guitar donated to the library by GuitarArt.org. We get the chance to add our own designs to the guitar, which will be displayed in the library all summer, then raffled off to raise money for next year’s Battle of the Bands.
